John William Waterhouse

The modern Pre-Raphaelite John William Waterhouse (1849-1917) was one of the most influential painters of the 19th Century.  A painter of mystery, beauty and dreams - Waterhouse painted from both Greek mythology and Arthurian legend.

Inspired first by classical themes in the spirit of Alma-Tadema, Waterhouse's later career was inspired by the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood.

Many of his paintings are based on characters and themes from literature and poetry from the works of Homer, Shakespeare, Tennyson and Keats.

A hugely collectable painter, his works are sought after by the likes of Sir Rod Stewart and Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber, Baron Lloyd-Webber.
